The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar shared information regarding the Free Legal Aid Scheme implemented by the Government under Article 39-A of the Constitution of India to safeguard the rights of the poor and weaker sections of society through its’ Tableau displayed on I day at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College, Phase 6 Mohali.
The tableau, an initiative of District and Sessions Judge Atul Kasana, further highlighted that under this scheme, citizens from poor and weaker sections are provided legal representation at government expense to safeguard their legal rights. The concerned advocates are paid the prescribed counsel fee and other litigation expenses by the Government through the District Legal Services Authority.
In addition, disputes between parties are settled through Lok Adalats and Mediation mechanisms on the basis of mutual consent. This not only saves time and money but also strengthens cooperation and trust among citizens.
The DLSA further highlighted that several welfare schemes, such as Free Legal Aid, Lok Adalats, Mediation, and other public welfare initiatives—are being effectively implemented for the benefit of citizens.
It was also announced that the next National Lok Adalat will be held on 13th September 2025, wherein various types of cases will be disposed of amicably with the consent of the parties.
On this occasion, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority and Chief Judicial Magistrate, Mrs. Surabhi Prashar, was also present. She stated that, “The prime objective of the District Legal Services Authority is to ensure easy access to justice for every citizen. Through Lok Adalats and Mediation, cases can be resolved quickly and amicably, thereby making the justice delivery system more effective.”
The DLSA has appealed to the public to remain aware of their rights and to approach the Authority without hesitation in order to avail free legal assistance whenever required.
