Promoting Health and Well-Being at Shivalik 78: A Dual Initiative for Students and Parents

Shivalik Public School, Sector 78, Mohali, recently hosted two enlightening health awareness programs to promote the overall well-being of students and help the parents understand the developmental goals of the children. These initiatives reflect the school’s commitment to nurturing a healthy, informed, and supportive environment for its community.

The first session, “Adolescence and Menstrual Hygiene”, was held on 16th May for the girl students of Grades V to IX. The session was conducted by Dr. Swati Gupta, Senior Consultant, Department of Paediatrics, Fortis Mohali. Dr. Gupta addressed the physical and emotional changes experienced during puberty, underlining the importance of personal hygiene, regular physical activity, and adopting nutritious eating habits during adolescence. The session concluded with an interactive Q & A session, where students confidently voiced their queries, fostering a comfortable space for open dialogue.

On 17th May, a session “Little Bodies, Big Potential: Understanding Your Child’s Health” was organized exclusively for parents of kindergarten students. The session was led by Dr. Rashmi Pandove, Associate Director, Department of Paediatrics and Neonatology, Max Hospital, Mohali. Dr. Pandove provided valuable insights into young children’s physical and emotional development. She spoke on key topics such as growth milestones, balanced nutrition, and the significance of preventive healthcare, equipping parents with practical tools to support their children’s development. The workshop also covered essential topics such as timely vaccinations, effective handwashing, physical activity, dental hygiene, emotional health, and positive parenting practices.

Principal, Ms. Poonam Rani expressed her heartfelt appreciation to both the guest speakers for their valuable guidance. She highlighted the role of such awareness programs in fostering a proactive and health-conscious school community.
