To proactively address drainage and waterlogging issues in Zirakpur, Derabassi, and Kharar during the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal convened a high-level meeting today at the District Administrative Complex, Mohali. The meeting was attended by SDMs, Executive Officers, Municipal Engineers, officials from the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Drainage and Mining Division, and representatives from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to identify vulnerable points and implement immediate remedial measures. She emphasized the deployment of adequate pumping machinery and timely dewatering of waterlogged areas. Regular cleaning of sewer lines and open drains was also stressed to prevent recurrence.

While discussing specific problem zones—such as VIP Road and Patiala Chowk in Zirakpur, Barwala Road in Derabassi, and Khooni Majra and Nijjar Chowk Road in Kharar—DC Mittal instructed the SDMs of Derabassi and Kharar to closely monitor these areas and ensure swift response during rainfall.

NHAI officials were specifically directed to clear waterlogging on highways without delay to keep vehicular movement smooth and uninterrupted.

With respect to Sukhna Choe overflow risks in parts of Zirakpur, the Deputy Commissioner asked local authorities to remain in close coordination with the Chandigarh Administration. This would help issue timely alerts in case of excess water flow from the Choe.

ADC (Urban Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Kharar Mrs. Divya P., and SDM Derabassi Amit Gupta assured the Deputy Commissioner of robust and coordinated management efforts to deal with waterlogging throughout the ongoing monsoon season.
