In a historic and emotionally stirring initiative, the Department of School Education, UT Chandigarh organized a massive commemorative event on July 31, 2025, to honor the valiant martyrdom of Shaheed Udham Singh, the iconic freedom fighter known for his unwavering commitment to justice in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
This city wide tribute witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 1 lakh individuals, including students, educators, and parents from Government, Government-aided, Central Government, and Recognized Private Schools throughout Chandigarh.
A Moment of Collective Reverence and Inspiration
The program was conducted in two major sessions to ensure inclusivity for all institutions:
• Morning Session: 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
• Evening Session: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Each school held a Special Assembly, carefully designed to foster a sense of national pride, civic responsibility, and moral courage. Students gathered to reflect on the life, mission, and sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh—whose name has become synonymous with resistance against colonial tyranny.
Words of Encouragement from the Hon’ble Governor: The tribute was further dignified by a heartfelt message from Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh. Schools across the Union Territory engaged in a diverse and creative set of activities, led entirely by students, showcasing their passion and understanding of national history:

• Quizzes, poster-making, and visual presentations that deepened understanding and sparked dialogue
