The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state today arrested ASI Satnam Singh posted at Police Station Islamabad, Amritsar for receiving a bribe of Rs 20,000/-as first instalment.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused demanded a bribe from the complainant Inderjeet Singh resident of Bhai Manj Road, Amritsar. The complainant, Inderjeet Singh stated that his close friend Paras Mehta was a financial advisor and had invested money of one Sunil Kumar in share market. The share market crashed and this caused a loss of Rs 2,00,000/- to Sunil Kumar. In this regard, he called him to his home where Sunil Kumar and his friends got four blank cheques signed from him and also got an affidavit of Rs 600,000/- signed from him and later filed a fraud complaint against him at Police Station Islamabad. Paras Mehta filed a complaint against Sunil Kumar at Commissionerate Amritsar, he said.
The complaint filed by Sunil Kumar was marked to ASI Satnam Singh for verification who contacted Paras Mehta and said that he will get his complaint marked to him and demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 to resolve his case. ASI Satnam Singh demanded that the first instalment of Rs 20,000 be immediately paid to him. The complainant did not want to pay a bribe for his friend’s rightful work. Hence, to get such a corrupt official nabbed by the Vigilance Bureau, the complainant, Inderjeet Singh, along with his friend Paras Mehta reported the matter to DSP VB Unit Amritsar, he added.
The statement of the complainant was recorded at Vigilance Bureau, Unit Amritsar. Subsequently the accused was caught red handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs 20,000 in presence of Govt. witness and the said case was registered against the aforesaid accused ASI u/s 7 P.C Act 1988, as Amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Range Amritsar. The instant case is under investigation. The accused ASI will be produced before the competent court tomorrow.
