CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, September 18:

In a major blow to narco-terror networks amidst the ongoing ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Border Range in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module being operated by foreign-based Harpreet Singh alias Happy Jatt with the arrest of its key operative and recovered 25 packets of heroin—weighing 25.9Kg— from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.

The arrested accused, identified as Sajan Singh alias Billa of village Beharwal in Amritsar, was working as a hairdresser at a private Salon in Amritsar. Apart from recovering big haul of heroin, police teams have also recovered one sophisticated 9MM Glock pistol from his possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation revealed that gangtser cum drug trafficker Harpreet Singh alias Happy Jatt, who is native of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar, has been running this module from foreign and was in contact with Pak-based smugglers, who were using drones to drop the heroin consignments from across the border.

Accused Happy Jatt is a proclaimed offender and has been facing at least 21 criminal cases in the state, said the DGP, while adding that Punjab Police teams are actively pursuing his extradition. Further investigation is underway to expose the full nexus, including the backward and forward linkages of the network, he added.

Sharing Operation details, Superintendent of Police (SP) ANTF Border Range Gurpreet Singh said that acting on precise intelligence, ANTF Border Range and BSF launched a coordinated operation and apprehended the accused Sajan Singh near village Beharwal, when he was on his way to deliver the heroin consignment.

He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the consignment was delivered at village Daleke from Pakistan via a heavy drone just a day earlier. The arrested accused Sajan was in contact with Happy Jatt through different social media applications and had been receiving drone-dropped heroin consignments from across the border for the last two months, he said.

The SP said that two more members of this module have been identified and police teams are on manhunt to nab them.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 252 dated 18/9/2025 has been registered under sections 21C, 25 and 29 of the NDPS act and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station ANTF, SAS Nagar.
