Speaker Punjab Vidhan Kultar Singh Sandhwan said on Saturday that the ancient martial art of Sikh heritage, 'Gatka' is all set to become an international game for which great efforts have been made by the National Gatka Association of India to regulate this game.

            While inaugurating the 10th Punjab State Gatka (Women) Championship-2022 at Baba Farid College of Nursing Kotakpura on Saturday, Speaker endorsed various historic events in his address including Sikh culture, heritage, and Sikh traditional martial art and said that every student should adopt this traditional game for self-defence.

            This two-days state Gatka competition was organised by the District Gatka Association of Faridkot in collaboration with Gatka Association of Punjab and under the aegis of National Gatka Association of India in which girls from 16 districts were competing in different five age groups.

            In the presence of the national and state office bearers of these Gatka associations, president Harjeet Singh Grewal, Pankaj Dhamija, Harbir Singh Duggal, Simranjit Singh Chandigarh, Kamalpal Singh Ferozepur and Talwinder Singh, the Speaker has started a Gatka fight between the girls' teams of Gurdaspur and Bathinda of which Bathinda team won the match.

            In his address Sandhwan lauded the efforts of District Gatka Association Faridkot president Dr. Manjit Singh Dhillon and his entire team for conducting this mega event and announced Rs one lakh to the District Association from his discretionary quota. On this occasion Dr. Manjit Singh Dhillon welcomed all the guests including Speaker Sandhwan and informed that around 400 girls from 16 districts across Punjab would participate in this competition of different age groups during this two-day tournament.

            District Press Secretary Gurinder Singh Mehndiratta informed that in this state championship Dr. Pritam Singh Chhokar, Harpreet Singh Dhillon, Baljit Singh Khiva, Pappu Lahoria, Gurpreet Singh Kaka, United Social Organization, Good Morning Welfare Club and other various organizations have extended their help and support.
