Health department team inspects sweets shops in Mohali, 4 samples taken

Sales of expired and adulterated items will not be tolerated at all: Dr. Subhash Kumar

Mohali, October 27 : Under the supervision of District Health Officer Dr Subash Kumar , food safety team of the health department visited various prominent sweets shops in Mohali city-sector 70, Phase 5, Sohana, Mattaur and seized 4 samples of various sweets and bakery items including khoya barfi, rasgulla, besan ladoos. Dr. Subhash Kumar said that on the instructions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Adarshpal Kaur, the food safety team checked the quality and durability of the sweets and milk. He said that 10 kg of stale 'Pinnis' were destroyed on the spot from a sweet shop in Mattaur. Instructions given were by officers to Food business Operators to maintain hygienic conditions in the manufacturing process and display 'use by date' on various sweet items. Officers informed that necessary actions are being taken to curb adulteration of sweets during festival season in Mohali district with random and surprise checking all over the district. Team also appreciated sweet shop owners for minimizing use of color in sweets and using only FSSAI permitted colors in Mohali.

           Dr. Subhash Kumar said that during the checking the shopkeepers were instructed to follow the guidelines issued by the district administration and health department to curb the spread of 'Coronavirus' pandemic. Shopkeepers were instructed to keep clean and not to sell expired items.  They were told to wear gloves and masks and not allow anyone to enter the shops without a mask. The shopkeepers were also briefed on the Food Safety Act. They were asked to sell pure and unadulterated items and also to pay special attention to cleanliness. He said that checking was not meant to harass anyone but to ensure that clean and quality food items were made available to the people. Food Safety Officer Rajdeep Kaur and Lovepreet Singh were part of the inspecting team.
