SBBS University clinches overall All India Inter-Varsity Gatka Trophy

 Punjabi University Patiala female Gatkebaaz wins women trophy

Host institution, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (SBBSU), Khiala, Jalandhar clinched the overall trophy of the 5th All India Inter University Gatka (Boys and Girls) championship. The Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib stood second and Punjabi University, Patiala team remained at third place.

          Similarly, in the girls Gatka competitions, the Punjabi University, Patiala secured first position, Jammu University and the third position was bagged by the team of Chandigarh University, Mohali bagged second and third places respectively.

          With the blessings of Late Sant Dilawar Singh Brahmji, this four-day Inter-University Gatka tournament was inaugurated at SBBS university by its Chancellor, Sant Sarwan Singh. He was accompanied by Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharamjit Singh Parmar, Secretary Hardaman Singh and Sant Gurdev Singh.

          Speaking on the occasion Sant Sarwan Singh blessed all the players and encouraged them to play with true sportsmanship and discipline. Dr. Parmar congratulated the Department of Physical Education and Sports for hosting this Gatka event.

          Giving more information, university Director Sports, Dr. Pritam Singh said a total of 25 teams of boys and girls from different universities of states participated in this four-day Gatka competition. Under the guidance of Harjeet Singh Grewal, President, National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), the country's oldest registered Gatka organization, the referees and judges of this national sports organisation performed their duties diligently during the mega national event.

          On this occasion Dr. Aneet Kumar, Dean Academics, Dr. Amarjeet Singh, Gatka Association Punjab president Harbir Singh, NGAI joint secretary Dr Pankaj Dhamija, Dr. Kulwinder Pal Singh Mahi, Dr. Surinder Kaur Mahi, Pranam Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Gagandeep Kaur, Sarabjit Singh, Gurmeet Singh Hoshiarpur and Captain Sukhdev Singh were also present.
