All set for 8th Punjab State Gatka Championship : Dr. Rajinder Sohal

Cabinet Minister Meet Hayer to inaugurate the championship

About 800 players from all the districts of Punjab will participate

Mohali, June 12 :

The Punjab Gatka Association, under the leadership of the Gatka Federation of India, is organizing a 3-day 8th Punjab State Gatka Championship from June 13 to 15 at Gurdwara Ishar Prakash Ratwara Sahib, New Chandigarh. Giving more information in this regard, Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal said that the three-day championship would be inaugurated by Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer. On this occasion, the President of Ratwara Sahib Trust Baba Lakhveer Singh will also be present to give blessings.

Sohal further told that the Punjab Gatka Association is led by the Gatka Federation of India headed by Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS, the World Gatka Federation headed by former Union Minister and former Rajya Sabha member Sardar Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, and The Sarbat Da Bhala Trust is headed by SP Oberoi. The association is recognized by Punjab State Sports Council and Punjab Olympic Association.

"After the inclusion of Gatka in National Games and Khelo India, a large number of children who love their heritage are joining Gatka, and this number is increasing continuously." Sohal added.

Around 800 players in Under 14, 17, 19, 22, 25, and Under 28 competitions will participate in this 3-day championship under the supervision of Baljinder Singh Toor, General Secretary, Gatka Federation of India. A 40-member team has been constituted by the association to conduct these competitions smoothly. This time, the championship will be conducted through the TSR system, and the results will be displayed on a big LED screen.


Shri Ratwada Sahib Trust President Baba Lakhveer Singh will also be present to give blessings on the occasion. It is worth mentioning that during the 7th Punjab State Gatka Championship held in November last year, Baba Ji gave an amount of Rs 2 lakh as a blessing for further promotion of Gatka. Along with this, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has also given his cooperation and support to the association.


It is noteworthy that the association organizes state and national-level Gatka competitions from time to time. Recently Gatka Cup in Seechewal, Gatka Cup in Paonta Sahib before that, National Championship in Delhi, State level competition in Ratwara Sahib last year, etc. are prominent.

Under the leadership of Gatka Federation of India President Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS, a large team of Punjab Gatka Association is carrying out its responsibility smoothly. Among them, Manjeet Singh, Bibi Jagkiran Kaur Waraich, Davinder Singh Jugni, Jagdish Singh Kurali, Jaswinder Singh Pabla, Prabhmeet Singh, Manvinder Singh, Gurlal Singh, and a large number of referees and judges are performing their duties very well.
