Sports Minister meets Akshdeep Singh and assures all possible help

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer handed over a cheque of Rs. 5 lakh to athlete Akshdeep Singh for his preparation for the Paris Olympics. Akshdeep Singh qualified for the Olympic Games, Asian Games and World Championships with a new national record in 20 km walk at Ranchi.
The Sports Minister met Akshdeep Singh here at his residence in Chandigarh and handed over the cheque in his honour.
Meet Hayer said that the first Indian athlete qualified for the Paris Olympic Games-2024, Akshdeep was honored on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Chief Minister’s view was that besides awarding the athlete after winning the medal, it is more important to give him a cash prize for preparing for the games.
The Sports Minister assured Akshdeep Singh of all kind of help from the Punjab Government and said that the Bhagwant Mann government will leave no stone unturned to give pride to the sportsmen.
He said that the sports department is making a new policy so that Punjab will again be made the leading state of the country in sports. He said that Akshdeep has brought honour to the name of the state as he is the first athlete of the country to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
Akshdeep Singh, a resident of Kahneke village in Barnala district, set a new National record with a time of 1.19.55 in the 20 km walk at the National Walking Championship at Ranchi. Director Sports Amit Talwar and Akshdeep Singh's coach Gurdev Singh were also present on the occasion.
